We had the pleasure of having Andrew Mounsey over to visit in June for an article in the Feed Compounder Magazine under the Out & About heading. The timing of this visit couldnt have come at a better time as it became something of a tribute to a wonderful man.

Corby Rock Mill Helping the Battle to Beat Cancer

Corby Rock Mill are delighted to announce that the total sum raised from our Bag it Pink campaign was a very impressive €17,735. We launched our pink bags in October of last year to help raise money for the Irish Cancer Society and we have been overwhelmed by the support we have received from you the customer. For every bag sold we donated 50c to the Irish Cancer Society for their work in Breast Cancer, so we applaud every one of our customers for this generous donation that we can now make to the Irish Cancer Society on behalf of our customers. The money will be going directly to help fund lifesaving research which is ongoing. This is a cause that has directly affected us all in some way. Unfortunately every 15 minutes, one person in Ireland is being diagnosed with cancer. Thanks to research and advances in detection and treatment, more people are surviving, with six out of every ten people diagnosed with cancer surviving beyond five years. In Co. Monaghan alone, one person each day of every week hear those dreaded words “You have cancer.”

So we can only hope that this contribution goes towards families in Ireland being spared their loved ones and winning the battle.

Tractor Winners

Corby Rock Mill held a very popular competition which involved guessing how many nuts where in the tractor trailer at Tydavnet, Castleblayney and Virginia Agricultural shows this summer. The long awaited answer is 19,481 nuts. The winners were John Clerkin (Tydavnet), Stephen Treanor (Virginia) and Ann Brennan (Castleblayney) and they are picture below with their families and their new machinery, along with Mark Quinn and Gerard Mc Connon from Corby Rock Mill. Corby Rock Mill would like to thank everyone who took part.

Local Farmers Improving Milk Quality with High Quality Feeds

Customers of Corby rock are enjoying the benefits of the high quality feeds produced through the Monaghan town Mill. Harold Andrews and his son David from Rosslea Co. Fermanagh are prime example of this; they operate a herd of 45 cows on a farm outside Rosslea Village and have been in the business for over 50 years.

Recently their hard work has been rewarded with premium bonuses for their protein levels, which place them in the top 100 farmers within their co-op in Northern Ireland. They averaged at 3.57% for the month of June.

Harold and David are using Corby Rock Meal, feeding “Super HE Dairy 20% Pellets” which has aided them in producing top quality milk. Maize and barley are the main energy source in this diet which is particularly effective in silage’s which are high in fibre, the protein source is provided through Soya. The pellets which are manufactured at a state of the art manufacturing facility located in Monaghan town also contain a unique buffer that stabilizes rumen pH and allows the animal to digest feed more efficiently. This is one of their most popular dairy pellets and is used in herds where expected yield would range from 1000-1500gallons.

The Andrews are purchasing their feed from their local merchant Derek Kerr who is located in Lisnaskea Co. Fermanagh. Derek will be celebrating 25 years in business this October and is very proud to have been working with the Andrews since day one. Corby Rock Mill pride themselves in manufacturing high quality feeds ranging from dairy, beef, calf, sheep and poultry products. They are leading the way in animal feed manufacturing and are very proud to be celebrating 40 years in business this year and looking forward to working alongside customers like Harold and David for many more.
